Scene Creation

To create my scene, I started by making a large plane with many cross sections in it. I then used the paint deformities tool on it add a natural looking geometry with a large hill on one side and a river in the middle.

Next I added water to the scene by making a semi transparent box that overlaid the small dip in the bottom of the ground. The reason I used this and not real dynamic water was because it was just for a small added visual effect, and didn't actually have any real purpose to the story, so there was to be no interaction with it. I also applied my grass texture to the scene. This really brought the floor to life and gave it a real cartoon feel.

Next I added in a path which I also added a texture to, this time some blocks, as if the road was paved. Again, the way the texture looked added a cartoon effect to the scene which I was really hoping to capture.

Next, I added a basic fence with a hole in the side of it so that the old man could walk through the hole onto the river bank. This was simple to make and the material for it was just a dark brown colour, as it was such a small part of the scenery any sort of texturing would have been very hard to notice.

Finally I modelled a single tree using two cylinders and then used a scatter modifier to place it all over the stage. Once I had done this the stage for the animation was completed. All I did at a later date was to add some planes around the edge of the scene to make a skyline.
